The Primary Election is held for members of the political parties to nominate candidates to the November General Election.  Note that Iowa does not have a presidential primary, and presidential candidates will NOT appear on the June 7 ballot.  Currently, there are two political parties in Iowa: the Democratic Party and the Republican Party.  Voters can only participate in one party's primary and must declare affiliation as a Democrat or Republican before voting.
